In recent years, the use of e-cigarettes among teenagers has surged, raising concerns about long-term health effects and the potential gateway to other substance use. According to the CDC 2023 survey. e-cigarettes have been the most common among young people since 2014, leading to continued nicotine use into adulthood. Vapes are more popular among young people in the United States than any other country in the world.

Some important statistics:

  • 10% of high school students use e-cigarettes on a regular basis.
  •

  • 38.4% used an e-cigarette on at least 20 of the last 30 days.
  •

  • 26.3% used an e-cigarette every day.

Because school is the main environment where teenagers are socialized and socio-behavioral factors play a major role, it is necessary to respond to this problem by all available means, especially considering that e-cigarettes can be the first step towards the use of not only nicotine - In 2016, nearly one in three (30.6%) of U.S. middle and high school students who had ever used an e-cigarette reported using marijuana in the device.

social responsibility App-Techs is a partner with Triton (vape detectors), and we perform configuration, installation and maintenance services. According to an EdTech 2023 survey. and as our experience, these sensors are installed in bathrooms, one of the most common areas where students vape. Sensors can also be installed in common areas or hallways, but large spaces allow the vapors to disperse, and crowded areas can make it difficult to pinpoint which student is using when the vapors are detected.

Here is a link to a document from Triton, which describes an 83% decline in vaping within 10 weeks after vape detector were installed. (Luling ISD Case Study)
